Process
5 Simple Steps To Joy, Peace, and Ease With Your Dog
1. Reset
The first step to addressing problem behaviors, is taking your dog out of the environment where those behaviors are the “status quo”. When your dog comes to stay with me, they’re in a new environment they aren’t exactly sure how they’re supposed to behave. This helps create a blank slate on which I can start training the new, preferred behaviors.
2. Relationship
Once you drop them off, we start with several days of fun, treats, and easy exercises to let them relax and feel safe with me and the situation. A happy dog is an eager dog, and an eager dog is so much easier to train!
3. Foundation
Once your dog is chiller than your local brewpub at 11:30, we lay the foundations for training. This includes basic commands like sit, down, stay, come, side, heel, etc.
4. Generalization
After your dog gets their basics down, we expand both the commands and settings they’re trained in. Want your dog to run alongside a bicycle, greet visitors calmly at your home, or sit happily with you at a coffee shop? This is when we train the skills and establish good habits they need in any environment.
We’ll work with your dog in multiple locations, especially ones where they’ve struggled with problem behaviors in the past. We make sure your dog understands that the new status quo of behavior applies everywhere.
5. Owner Support
After your dog is trained, we’ll drop them off at your home. But the training doesn’t stop there. We want to make sure you have all the skills you need to maintain your dog’s obedience for life. Mid-Training Sessions
While your dog is in my program, you’ll have opportunities to visit us and participate. During these sessions, you’ll experience what they’re learning, see our progress, and learn leadership skills yourself.
Intensive Go-Home Session
I’ll teach you everything you need to know to maintain your dog’s training. I’ll dive into dog psychology, proper technique, environments that are important to you, and answer any questions that you might have. When we’re done, you’ll know how to continue reinforcing and improving your dog’s behavior when you go home.
Additional Go-Home Lessons
You also get two more go-home lessons with me to solve problems, make sure your dog understands that their newfound manners apply everywhere, and even add new skills to their obedience.
Ongoing Support for Life

Hi, I’m Joey, lead trainer at The Seattle Dog Trainer. There’s nothing I love more than helping owners become confident leaders and trainers for the dogs they love!
Most dog trainers miss the fact that good dog training depends on good people training. It’s actually pretty easy to train a dog. Preparing their owners to maintain and improve that training is the hard part.
Before I became a dog trainer, I spent a decade training people in high-urgency industries like hospitality and food service.
When I traded in my chef whites for a training treat pouch, I realized that my experience gave me a unique advantage over other trainers: I know how to teach people new skills and support them to feel calm and confident – even in busy or stressful environments.

But you should know that when your dog trains with me, they’ll be working with a professional who’s trained hundreds of other dogs. And because I believe that happy, relaxed dogs learn better, I make training as fun and engaging for your dog as possible!
Yes, you’ll miss them. But after their training they’ll come home without all of the stressful problem behaviors that used to drive you crazy. You’ll be able to enjoy your dog’s company even more than you did before!
And you won’t be left wondering how they’re doing. I’ll keep you updated with regular check-ins, photos, and honest feedback about their progress througout their training.
Will my dog remember me?
You are the most significant thing that has ever happened in your dog’s life. Of course they’ll remember you! Not only will they be ecstatic to see you on go-home day, you’ll also be set-up to enjoy more connection and better relationship with them than before!
Will my dog lose their personality at the end of the program?
My goal in training isn’t to give you a perfectly trained “robot” dog with no personality. Every dog has a unique temperament and personality, and I do my best to tailor my training goals to each specific dog and family. When your dog comes home, they’ll be a better version of themselves. You’ll be able to bring their fun personality along on outings and adventures, without all the stressful problem behaviors!
